genius’

we recently had a trip to the applestore recently and dont get me wrong, they have great customer service, always been courteous, and polite, but getting their attention, and then getting your moments worth of time with them is pretty tough.
dropping off the macbook pro to be repaired , we waited 20 minutes. and get this: we had an appointment.
palm -> face.
truthfully, each time I’ve gone to the apple store and seen the crowds of people hanging around the genius bar waiting patiently (or impatiently) for their moment to talk to a genius, I’ve said to myself: “there’s a need for good mac i.t. folk out there, look at all this demand!” so, i’ve decided to go and help the humble masses.
who am i?
professionally, Im a Jr systems administrator for 3TIER Group, I specialize in mac, helping lots and lots of switchers convert from windows over to os x. I’ve worked in IT for 12 years now, and so the Jr Level IT doesnt exactly fit my experience, but I really wanted the opportunity to work in a socially responsible industry and its really been worth it. when you love what you do, can you really call it work?
what can I do?
its hard to pin point, but Ill share my experience with you, and you can judge for yourself.
-Ive been a IT / helpdesk / systems administrator for mac and windows for about 12 years. In that time, Ive worked for print houses, clothing and apparal brands, game companies, travel and tourism, and now renewable energy forcasting. I’ve supported graphic designers, animators, art directors, CEO’s , CFO’s , page layout artists, traditional artists, photograhers, webmasters, preflight specialists, sales and marketing directors, administrative assistance, directors, production supervisors, teachers students, film editors, doctors, lawyers, moms, dads, friends, family and strangers I’ve met while shopping, on the bus, and standing in line at the supermarket.
-I have a degree in art. I started my education as a computer animation student of the art and animation design program at the art institute of seattle. Since graduation, I’ve helped the UW as a TA in their Game Animation program, which fostered a fire in me to teach. I loved it. To this day, i still plan on teaching in some way shape or form, more than likely something in the graphic arts.
what can I do for you?
everyone needs help now and then, im the guy they call. I’ve helped people find the right technological solutions for their budgets. From setting up your home with wifi, to building your new home office and designing small networks. I’ve helped people find a computer to help them organize their photo libraries, Ive done checkups and removal of trojans and other virii you might have run into. I’ve even given tutorials on how to use your new digital camera. Its a simple concept, think of me as your tech-coach, or tech-liason.
I really enjoy helping people do what they need done. at the end of the day, thats whats the most fulfilling to me. watching you “get it” is the pat on my back that keeps me running. I have no vested interest in helping anyone but you, and that is what keeps me doing what I do, and i’d love to talk to you about any help you need. from technology coaching, to photoshop tips. wireless networking to upgrading computer. if I can do it, i’ll help you do it.
